La Vanille Réserve des Mascareignes was opened in 1985 in the south of Mauritius.
This part of the island has, more than any other part, kept a feeling "old Mauritius", whether it be the manner of the people, their traditions or even the unspoilt scenery.
Our guides will take you on unforgettable walks, and you will stroll through luxuriant Greenery where banana trees, palm trees and giant bamboos provide shade for the thousands of Nile crocodiles whcich are in this park, and which you can visit in perfect safety...
After leaving our crocodilian friends, you can visit the giant tortoises, wandering around in their two-acre park and meet Domino, who is approximatively 90 years old and weights 270kgs.
You may wish to take a souvenir photo in the largest Aldabra and Radiata tortoises park in the world.
A 'must see' is our collection of butterflies and other brihtly-coloured insects (aproximatively 23 000 species), which is one of fascinating in the wolrd. It took Mr. Jacques Siedlecki 30 years of patient work to put together this amazing collection. He will greet you himself and tell you all about his passion for insects.
During your walks through banana trees, palm trees and giant bamboos, you will discover a variety of other creatures: geckos, monkeys, Madagascan tenrecs, java deers, Japonese Koi carps, fruit bats and many other species.
Close to the giant tortoises our “Jungle Adventure Playground” Park, an area of fun for the younger ones. Among the trees and birds, the kids can safely enjoy the slides, swings, merry-go-round, espalier which forms part of that tropical and unspoiled nature.
Le Crocodile Affamé Restaurant
Our restaurant "le Crocodile Affamé" or "The Hungry Crocodile", built among the tree-tops will offer you a choice of Mauritian and other dishes, in particular those made with crocodile meat, which tastes like chicken. Snacks and various drinks are also available.
